Coach Al Mitchell Says Mikaela Mayer Will Outbox Alycia Baumgardner

At long last, unified 130-pound women’s champion Mikaela Mayer (17-0, 5KOs) and WBC champion Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner (12-1, 7KOs) will finally get to settle their differences. Originally set to fight on September 10 on the undercard of the Claressa Shields versus Savannah Marshall 160-pound undisputed title fight, the bout was postponed due to the death of Queen Elizabeth of England.

With their new date of October 15 less than a week away, the excitement is starting to build again. The lead-up to this fight has been nothing short of entertaining, with both women taking digs at one another and promising dominant performances. However, once that bell rings, none of that will matter.

Outside of the trash-talk, you have to look at what’s most important, and that’s the skillset of both fighters. It’s no secret that Mayer is considered the more refined, technical fighter with more versatility. Baumgardner, on the other hand, is a power-punching counterpuncher.

WHO HAS THE EDGE?

So who’s the better fighter? Well, if you ask the trainer of Mayer, coach Al Mitchell, he’s going to obviously say his fighter. Speaking with fighthype.com, he had the following to say:

“Two good athletes, two good champs. I believe Mikaela is the better boxer, I think Alycia is going to throw bombs and punches. I just think it’s going to be a really good fight. It’s a good fight for the fans. I think it’s going to be a really good fight, and in Mikaela’s last four fights, she’s been in some tough fights and she’s shown me she can handle it.”

Come fight night , we will all get to see once and for all who the superior fighter truly is. The winner will walk away with three of the four 130-pound belts, leaving them one belt from being undisputed.
