Blair Cobbs Praises Maurice Hooker for Underwhelming Performance
One of boxing’s biggest characters, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs (16-1-1, 10KOs), got a much needed victory over former WBO 140-pound champion Maurice Hooker (27-3-3, 18KOs) on August 6. In that fight, Cobbs would drop Hooker multiple times. While he wasn’t able to finish off the former champion, he would go on to win a dominant unanimous decision.
After getting knocked out by Alex Rocha (20-1, 13KOs) back in March, the supremely confident Cobbs was clowned over his prediction of winning a dominant victory. With the win over Hooker, Cobbs is now ranked #8 (WBO).
THE FLAIR REFLECTS ON HIS BIGGEST WIN!
“It was a great performance by Hooker. He came in there to win. We need to understand that he went in there to win. He, his team, Terence Crawford, they all came in there to win. They came in there with a game plan.”
Most people hearing those comments from Cobbs would immediately disagree that Hooker came in there to win. The former champion, for one, didn’t come close to making weight. Secondly, he appeared mentally out of the fight before the bell rang. His inability to execute the instructions his team was giving him was on full display as well.
With that being said, that’s not Cobb’s fault. He did what he was supposed to do as a professional. It’ll be interesting to see where he goes from here and who he squabbles with in his next ring outing.
