Is Frank Martin v Chris Colbert on the Horizon?
The lightweight division is filled with talented fighters. On July 9, we saw rising unbeaten contender Frank “The Ghost” Martin (16-0, 12KOs) pick up the most significant win of his young career. In a fight that proved to be a tough task for the Indianapolis native, Martin rose to the occasion, scoring a tenth round TKO victory over Jackson Marinez.
Martin, who’s promoted by unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr., is looking for an even bigger step up in competition for his next fight. With that, Spence is already hard at work trying to oblige his fighter. The Man Down Promotions head honcho knows exactly who he wants for The Ghost next.
THE GHOST V PRIMETIME NEXT?
Spence decided to reach out to former WBA Interim 130-pound champion Chris “Primetime” Colbert (16-1, 6KOs) via social media. This led to a back and forth between the two. At the end of the conversation, Colbert declared, “They going to respect my name!”
This would be a very good fight for both men. Both are confident and very skilled. Primetime disappointed fans with his last performance, getting thoroughly dominated and dropped by Hector Luis Garcia (15-0, 10KOs). This is an opportunity for him to get back in the win column and, in the process, do so by beating a very good fighter.
While Colbert isn’t Devin Haney or Gervonta Davis, he’s a fighter who has the skills to give Martin a good fight. If all goes well with negotiations, we could be getting this fight later this year.
