Richard Commey vs Teofimo Lopez Targeting December 14
3kingsboxing.com has learned that the long talked-about fight between IBF lightweight champion Richard Commey and mandatory challenger Teofimo Lopez appears to have a date of December 14. If finalized, Commey-Lopez will be apart of the Terence Crawford vs Egidijus Kavaliauskas under-card.
Lopez, a rising star, earned the mandatory spot by defeating Masayoshi Nakatani on July 19 via unanimous decision. Commey is coming off his first IBF title defense back on June 28. He would defeat former champion Ray Beltran in 8 rounds by stoppage.
This fight could be a barn-burner, as both men possess knockout power and a tendency to stand and fight.
This moment will tell us a lot about both fighters. Regarding Lopez, where he stands as he looks to become a champion and the star he proclaims himself. Also, whether or not he can be competitive against Vasyl Lomachenko, assuming he gets by the talented Luke Campbell in their August 31 WBC lightweight title fight.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
