Michael Conlan Prepared to Bring his A-Game Against Leigh Wood
On March 12, unbeaten featherweight contender Michael “Mick” Conlan (16-0, 8KOs) will travel to enemy territory in his attempt to become world champion. The five-year pro will be taking on WBA Regular featherweight champion Leigh “Leigh-thal” Wood (25-2, 15KOs). In their final press conference, not much was said in terms of trash talk; it was clear that both were focused and ready to go.
For Conlan, he knows he’s going to have to be at his best against Wood. Who brings his newfound confidence, power and the advantage of fighting in front of his hometown fans.
Conlan had this to say at the final press conference:
“I know what kind of performance is coming on Saturday night. This is the most relaxed and calm I’ve ever been on a fight week. I don’t feel any pressure. I’m here in the opponent’s backyard. You know, I’ve got to rip the belt off him. “
He mentioned multiple times that his preparation for this fight has helped alleviate any pressure and instead increased his confidence. A normally outspoken character with tons of confidence, Conlan’s calm demeanor signals that he’s all about business. With a world title on the line, it’s clear he’s not willing to chance anything. He views Wood as a legitimate threat to prevent him from realizing a childhood dream of becoming a world champion.
With both guys proclaiming that their respective camps have been nothing short of great, let’s not be surprised if we’re treated to a rock ’em sock ’em throw down in Nottingham.
