Terence Crawford answers questions over social media.
In an impromptu social media session with fans, the WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford (35-0, 26KO) took time to answer questions. Obviously it didn’t take long for the name of the IBF champion to come up.
Crawford kept it short and sweet when asked if he believes Errol Spence is ducking him. He answered with a simple “no”.
This is key because there has been a popular narrative propagated from the statements Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum made about Al Haymon post Crawford’s win over Amir Khan in April.
The idea that Haymon does not want to do business outside of his own brand had many fans believing the IBF champion was ducking. Additionally, a video that recently surfaced of Errol stating he will look to get “in-house” fights before persuing Crawford added fuel to the fire.
As for the immediate future, Spence has a unification bout with WBC champion Shawn Porter September 28. Pertaining to the video mentioned above, he’d like to face off with WBA champion Manny Pacquiao should he emerge victorious against Porter, then follow up with Crawford before the close of 2020.
In the meantime, it looks like the WBO champ and Top Rank will have to be creative to find opponents that would maintain fan interest. There’s been talk that number one ranked WBO challenger Egidijus Kavaliauskas will most likely be Crawford’s next assignment.
Until Spence and Porter settle their business, it’s moot to talk about the prospect of a Crawford vs Spence unification.
