Terence Crawford Says There Was Nothing Sudden About BLK Prime Deal

WBO welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (38-0, 29KO) is about to send the boxing community into another whirlspin after revealing when he was talking to BLK Prime.

THE BACKSTORY

Crawford sent social media into a frenzy after a recent live video explaining the reason behind the collapse of the undisputed showdown with unified champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (28-0, 22KO). In the live video, Bud gave details of a conversation with Premier Boxing Champions head honcho Al Haymon. According to the WBO champion, they only discussed the numbers.

One of the main reasons for the collapse of Crawford was the lack of transparency. Moreover, his introduction of two hedge fund companies willing to put up $25 million for both him and Spence was shut down by Haymon.

BLK PRIME CAME INTO THE PICTURE EARLY

Several fans walked away from the live feed scratching their heads with more questions than answers. In a recent interview on the DAZN Boxing show, Crawford claimed to have been speaking with BLK Prime since Summer.

“Well, I’ve been talking to them probably around June or July. It was early, really. I met them before then. But, I didn’t really have too many conversations with them because I had stated to them I had other things lined up that I’m moving forward with.

I really didn’t tell them about the Spence fight. Once I did tell them, I kept it real with them. We never had any negotiations. We were just talking and getting to know one another. Once they wanted to do something [..] I had stated, ‘listen, this is my first priority, and my main priority. This is where I’m headed.’

I didn’t want to leave them in the dark and have their hopes up high.”

The WBO champion refused to go into details if BLK Prime is one of the companies offering the $25 million. Despite telling BLK Prime about the Spence fight being a top priority, fans will still raise an eyebrow at the fact he was communicating with them while negotiating with PBC.

Crawford is scheduled to fight fringe contender David Avanesyan on BLK Prime Boxing pay-per-view in December. There is still hope within the boxing community that the undisputed showdown will happen in 2023.
