Terence Crawford may defend his WBO title against veteran Luis Collazo next
WBO welterweight champion Terrence Crawford (34-0, 25KO) is close to reaching an agreement to fight former WBA champion Luis Collazo (38-7, 20KO). This comes as somewhat of a surprise as Crawford was expected to fight Egidijus Kavaliauskas who is a Top Rank stablemate and set to be named his WBO mandatory.
The target date and venue is March 23 at Madison Square Garden. Beyond looking at the match-up, it is good to see Top Rank and the PBC doing business together again.
The collaboration could lead to the possibility of making a bout with IBF champion Errol Spence easier. With the sometimes contentious relationship between Top Rank and the PBC it’s good to see them taking steps in the right direction.
Additionally, if both fighters continue to win it looks like they’ll meet in the fourth quarter of 2019.
Collazo is a competent veteran with a tricky style who functions well as an underdog. Crawford is a known commodity, and one of the best technicians in all of boxing.
The heavy favorite will definitely be the WBO champion. We at 3kingsboxing.com will keep you posted on any future developments.
