Bud Crawford Shuts Down Rumors of June Showdown with Errol Spence Jr

Those hoping for a late spring unification between WBO welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) and unified 147 pound champion Errol “The Truth” Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) could be left with eggs on their faces. That’s because Crawford seemingly shut down that notion with one single post on social media.

Terence Crawford says undisputed fight rumors were an April Fools joke

Word on the street was that the two will fight on June 17, with a formal announcement on April 22 on the undercard of the upcoming grudge match between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia. However, insiders and many observers were skeptical.

RIGHT TO BE CYNICAL

It’s not the first that fans have been teased about this potential matchup. The bout seemed to be a go for November 2022. But those hopes were dashed during negotiations.

The continuing hiccup is something commonplace in this sport, and that is money. Crawford and Spence are at odds over the guaranteed purses each would receive for facing another. Additionally, Crawford felt that PBC and Al Haymon were guilty of not being transparent about event expenses. As of this writing, there hasn’t been any resolution to those issues.

It is an unlikely possibility that Crawford made that post as a diversionary tactic, and the bout is a done deal. Bud has the reputation of being a straight shooter and one not to play those kinds of games on social media or anywhere else.

Spence-Crawford is a fight the boxing community has wanted for several years. Yet, it hasn’t happened. Crawford’s recent comment suggests that it’s unlikely to take place anytime soon. Stay tuned to 3kingsboxing.com for any further updates.
