Terence Crawford Talks Motivation for Making Fight with Rival Errol Spence
When it comes to the welterweight division, there’s only one fight that matters, and that’s a showdown between unbeaten unified champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. (28-0, 22KOs) and WBO champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (38-0, 29KOs). The highly anticipated undisputed matchup is currently being negotiated and reportedly close to being a done deal. However, no new updates have been provided in recent weeks. The expectation is that a deal will get done for these two men to finally clash.
Fights of this magnitude aren’t made overnight or in a month. It takes time to strike a deal, as everything in the negotiations counts. But that doesn’t mean fans, reporters, and even fellow fighters won’t ask either man about the latest status of the negotiations.
LET’S SETTLE THIS!
Crawford recently made an appearance on former two-time welterweight champion Shawn Porter’s The Porter Way podcast. While he wasn’t asked about how negotiations were going, Porter did ask if a fight with Spence was something that needed to happen.
“Not really, I wouldn’t say I got to have it because realistically I’m going to the Hall of Fame with or without. I feel like this is a fight more so for all my fans and the people that really love boxing and follow it and, you know, for the sport. And personally for myself as well, because I’ve never had a rival of this magnitude to drive me. Everywhere I go its, ‘Errol Spence, Errol Spence, Errol Spence!’ I put a video of my kids, ‘Errol Spence, Errol Spence!’ You know what I mean? And it’s the same with him! I know he’s like, ‘man, I’m tired of hearing this dude’s name! Man, we got to fight, let’s settle this!”
It’s clear that Crawford doesn’t feel the need to have Spence’s name on his resume, believe it or not. He believes he’s a shoe-in for the Hall of Fame regardless. But what’s also clear is that his pride as a fighter won’t let this fight not happen. This is music to fight fans’ ears. Let’s hope a deal is officially announced soon.
