Terence Crawford Set To Return To The Ring June 13
WBO world welterweight champion Terence Crawford (36-0, 27 KOs) will make his next appearance in the ring on June 13, as stated by his manager and trainer Brian McIntyre.
During an interview with ESPN, McIntyre explained that they are looking for a big fight against a big-named opponent, with WBA World Welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao as the top choice and former IBF World Welterweight champion Kell Brook being essentially the alternative pick.
“They say that they’re working on [Manny] Pacquiao. Fox and ESPN said they were going to try to work together to make something. They were going to look at the guy overseas, Kell Brook.”
Facing growing criticism for not facing high-profile opponents since moving up to welterweight, facing Pacquiao, in particular, would be push back against that critique. And with Pacquiao now being a PBC fighter, a win could set up a fight against IBF/WBC World Welterweight champion Errol Spence, Jr.
Asked about an eventual showdown against Spence, McIntyre said he’s unsure because Spence has yet to fight since his car crash in October 2019. A unification bout with him could happen down the road, possibly sometime in 2021.
All of this is conjecture and projection, but if you’re a boxing fan you have to hope a Crawford – Pacquiao welterweight unification indeed does take place in June. The 40-year-old Pacquiao is still fighting at a high level, plus Crawford needs a fight against an eye-opening foe. We at 3KingsBoxing will keep you updated on this developing story.
