Andy Cruz Eyes Keyshawn Davis After Mishiro Blowout!
In his latest tour of duty, Cuban lightweight contender Andy Cruz (6-0, 3 KO’s) chewed up and spit out opponent Hironori Mishiro (17-2, 6 KO’s) in five short rounds. As the winner of this IBF lightweight title eliminator, he is directly lined up for a title shot with IBF 135-pound champion Raymond “Danger” Muratalla (23-0, 17 KO’s). Despite his strategic positioning though, rather than call out the champion, Cruz took the time to needle his long-term amateur-turned professional rival, Keyshawn Davis.
“In the end, I always said that I was born for these moments. When I go into these fights, I am completely prepared for this. Keyshawn [Davis], learn from your father!”
It’s actually rather odd that Cruz would bother with mentioning Davis and no one else. Davis is currently trudging along the walk of shame after recently missing weight which directly led to the implosion of his fight with Edwin De Los Santos. Since he opted to not bring up any other name, we will just have to wait and see what Team Cruz is thinking about in terms of their next fight.
Cruz, with his #1 (WBC) standing, is in perfect position to face the winner of WBC 135-pound champion Shakur Stevenson and interim WBC 135-pound champ Williams Zepeda. If Stevenson were to win, this would make for great dramatic theater. This is due to the fact that Stevenson is very good friends with the aforementioned Keyshawn Davis.
