Daniel Dubois vs Dillian Whyte Deal Being Finalized
Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois (18-1, 17 KOs) is coming off the biggest win of his career. On June 11, he knocked out Trevor Bryan in four rounds to capture the WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight title. Dubois has hopes that victory will propel him to better and more significant matches. It now looks like he is getting his wish.
According to Boxing Kingdom, Dubois is deep in negotiations to make his first title defense against former world title challenger Dillian “The Body Snatcher” Whyte (28-3, 19 KOs). Negotiations have reached a point where the fight is close to a done deal.
STILL A QUALITY OPPONENT
Whyte is coming off a six-round TKO loss to reigning WBC champ Tyson Fury on April 16. However, “The Body Snatcher” still poses a significant threat. He has fought the best of the best in the division and would be the most accomplished opponent of Dubois’ career.
Many pundits argue that the 35-year-old is a better fighter than Bryan! A grizzled veteran, Whyte has the size, strength, and punching power to give Dubois a test.
THERE’S STILL A LOT TO PROVE
The champ’s lone defeat as a pro came against Joe Joyce in November 2020. Like Whyte, Joyce is another big, hard-hitting, physically strong man. There are still questions surrounding Dubois in the aftermath of that fight. They mainly pertain to his toughness and his chin and how much the broken eye socket he suffered has healed. A match against Whyte would answer some lingering questions fans and pundits still have.
