Davies vs Ritson On the Way!

Matchroom Boxing has done it again with another exciting domestic level fight. Robbie Davies Jr. (19-1, 13KO) will face fellow countryman Lewis Ritson (19-1, 12KO).

It’s shouldn’t surprise anyone this fight is going to happen after both men fought on the same card August 2. It was a build up of things to come with these two rivals wanting to fight each other. Both combatants would taunt each after their respective victories, adding even more excitement to fight.

Davies’ career could have taken a bad turn back in 2017. The 29-year old boxer would suffer his first defeat by knockout against Michal Syrowatka that year. Most fighters would have been devastated in the face such adversity.

However, this wasn’t the case for the young boxer. He immediately rematched and won in impressive fashion by knockout, recapturing the WBA Continental Junior Welterweight title. This proves that the Liverpool fighter can overcome adversity and has the mental toughness to succeed in this sport.

Lewis Ritson, age 25, impressed many with a knockout victory over then-undefeated rising Irish fighter Paul Hyland Jr back in 2018. However, he suffered his first career loss against little known boxer Francesco Patera in October 2018 when he was thoroughly out-boxed.

Nevertheless, he would bounce back with two consecutive victories and win the WBA Inter-Continental title.

INTERESTING FACTS

A victory for either fighter will see a huge boost in the rankings in an already stacked division.

Davies is ranked inside the top 10 by two major sanctioning bodies, while his counterpart is only ranked #11 by the WBA.

The younger WBA titlist will undoubtedly be highly motivated by the hometown crowd advantage.

The bout will air live on Sky Sports and DAZN at the Newcastle Arena on October 19.
