Is De La Hoya Stirring Up Ryan Garcia with Praise for Haney?

Golden Boy Promotions executive Oscar De La Hoya’s compliment towards WBC junior welterweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney may stir the pot with “King” Ryan Garcia.

The boxing world eagerly anticipates a potential showdown between Haney (31-0, 15KO) and Garcia (24-1, 20KO). Shockwaves hit social media with news of the two sides eyeing a 2024 clash.

To secure the fight, De La Hoya took to social media with a message for The Dream that could potentially unsettle his fighter, Garcia.

“Happy holidays to the best 140-pounder in the world @Realdevinhaney.”

Some believe this statement to be accurate, as many boxing enthusiasts previously considered two-time champion Regis Prograis as the division’s top dog. However, Haney’s convincing victory over the two-time champion earned him the title of the new divisional leader.

The Dream responded by accepting the challenge, leaving the boxing public in anticipation of whether a deal can be reached

HIS FIGHTER MAY HAVE A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THAT STATEMENT

Several fighters, including IBF champion Subriel Matias, WBA Regular champion Rolando Romero, and WBO champion Teofimo Lopez, may take issue with De La Hoya’s claim.

Yet, perhaps no one feels more disrespected by the Golden Boy executive’s compliment than Garcia. The dysfunction with King Ryan and his promoter played out live on social media for boxing fans to witness.

Garcia once accused his promoter of supporting his previous opponent, Oscar Duarte, to beat him. It’s safe to say those feelings maybe reignited with De La Hoya calling Haney divisions fighter.

As of the writing of this article, Garcia has not commented on De La Hoya’s statement, but fans can trust that he will have something to say.
