Oscar De La Hoya wants to rematch Floyd Mayweather
Golden Boy Promotions head honcho Oscar De La Hoya announced his comeback to boxing targeted for July 3. However, his plans changed to facing UFC legendary fighter Vitor Belfort on the new date of September 11. But it seems he revealed a three-fight plan to avenge a fourteen-year defeat by fighting Floyd Mayweather.
De La Hoya answer questions during the intermission of former WBO Junior Middleweight champion Jaime Munguia’s fight against former title contender Kamil Szeremeta. He was asked about his plans moving forward.
“I have a plan. I want to make the biggest comeback in boxing history. So what I want to do is get two of these fights down under my belt. Get my timing ready and then for my third one, I want to call out Floyd Mayweather.”
MAN WITH THE PLAN
De La Hoya has been wanting to rematch Mayweather since losing to him back in May 2007. Furthermore, Mayweather’s victory over De La Hoya is what ushered in the era of the Money May persona. Equally important, for years the Golden Boy Promotions head honcho has been quoted as saying, “I have the blueprint to beating Mayweather.”
He supposedly opened the vault and gave both Juan Manuel Marquez and Mexican megastar Canelo Alvarez the blueprint. Both fighters tasted defeat against the former pound for pound kingpin, resulting in fans mocking De La Hoya over the years. Mayweather recently was involved in an exhibition bout against YouTube sensation Logan Paul. Money May has shown no interest in returning to the boxing ring, but De La Hoya feels his former arch-rival could be persuaded to change his mind.
“I think Floyd, after that exhibition he did with Logan Paul, I think he is feeling that he has to prove something once again inside the boxing ring.”
Oscar De La Hoya will wait to see how things turn out over the next two upcoming fights, and he will call out Floyd
“If I feel good in these next two fights that I have, I am going to go out there and call Floyd.”
