James DeGale and Chris Eubank Jr to headline February 23 card in the O2 Arena
The long rumored domestic showdown between former IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale and Chris Eubank Jr finally has a date and venue.
Their fight will take place at the O2 Arena in London and will air live on ITV Box Office. This bout will be the first UK domestic level bout produced from the PBC/ITV joint venture.
DeGale (32)(25-2, 15KOs), a 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist is in the midst of a career crossroads. He’s 2-1 in his last three fights and has himself admitted his career is coming to a close. In his last ring outing he defeated Fidel Monterrosa Munoz via third round knockout in September of 2018.
Eubank Jr will look to continue rebounding from his second career defeat in the World Boxing Super Series. There he lost in the semi-finals to then WBA super middleweight champion George Groves. After that fight he was highly criticized for the lack of ability to adjust and display championship level skills.
However, he has yet another chance to redeem himself and get a credible win under his belt. In the process, he can position himself for a title fight sometime this year. He’ll attempt to do so with new head trainer Nate Vasquez in his corner.
Both men are known for their trash talk so needless to say the build-up for this fight will be entertaining. Hopefully it exceeds expectations!
