Delante “Tiger” Johnson Signs with Top Rank!
Well it looks like Cleveland native and amateur boxing standout Delante “Tiger” Johnson (0-0, 0 KO) has remained true to his word. Prior to attending the 2020 Olympics Games, Johnson was adamant that he was going to turn pro nearly immediately after. It’s now been revealed that Tiger has signed on with the infamous boxing promotion outfit, Top Rank. Not only that, come November 20, Johnson will be staging his professional debut on the undercard of Crawford versus Porter.
Before arriving at the Olympic Games, Tiger had amassed a great deal of achievements for himself. Johnson, 23, had already claimed honors in the 2014 National Junior Olympics, 2015 Youth National Championship, 2017 Elite National Championships and the 2019 Pan American Games. The Cleveland native was making quite a bit of noise. So much so that he even attracted the attention of former drug kingpin turned legitimate business mogul Freeway Rick Ross. For a brief period, Ross was aiding Johnson as something of an advisor, although while amicable this working relationship has since dissolved.
Once in the Olympics, Johnson was able to topple Ablaikhan Zhussupov and Brian Arregui before running into a brick wall named Roniel Iglesias. For whatever it’s worth, not only did Iglesias defeat Johnson, he went on to capture the gold medal. Now with his amateur career officially in his rearview mirror, Tiger is completely focused on his professional future. Starting out affiliating himself with Top Rank is a really good start. The longtime promotional outfit is well known for doing an impeccable job of grooming their young fighters for greatness. In the end though, only time will tell how Delante Johnson’s story will ultimately play out.
