Delante Johnson Beats Tarik Zaina to Remain Undefeated

In his second fight of the year, junior welterweight prospect Delante “Tiger” Johnson (13-0, 6 KO’s) won a rather pedestrian unanimous decision win over Tarik “El Camello” Zaina (13-2-1, 8 KO’s).

Johnson was able to find early success with his snappy jab, head movement and strong right hand. Yet, as the bout wore on, Tiger’s offensive began to feel a bit monotonous due to his reluctance to press on the gas or show additional wrinkles.

To his credit, his adversary, Zaina, was not making it easy by being aggressive, cagey and very hard to discourage. There was never a point in the fight when it was not evident that the Cleveland, Ohio native was not in control of the prizefight. However, his overall listlessness no doubt left the viewing audience wanting a bit more action.

In the final period, Tiger finally began applying the critical pressure that he should have much earlier in the duel. Nevertheless, when the final cards were read, Johnson prevailed by way of unanimous decision to the tune of 79-73, 78-74 and 77-75. Judging by his current fight rate, more than likely Tiger will be back in the ring very soon. It will be interesting to see if he can inject a bit more urgency into that next performance.
