WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade arrested on a gun possession charge
Newly crowned WBO champion Demetrius Andrade was arrested on possession of a gun without a permit in the wee hours of December 6.
Providence police during a routine stop while the champion was blocking traffic talking to a friend, found an unregistered gun in a Louis Vuitton bag inside the champion’s Mercedes.
Andrade claims the gun was for protection due to his notable name. However, he possessed the gun unlawfully since he did not own a permit.
The champion was charged with felony possession of a firearm without a license. He was arraigned and released on bail hours later.
This is awful timing as Andrade is set to potentially make some noise at middleweight. Consequently, the burden of a trial and possible jail time could be a set-back in his immediate future.
