Devin Haney says Teofimo Lopez is beginning to drown in his own lies

Few would argue that the saga between WBC World Lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (25-0, 15 KO’s) and WBA Super, IBF and WBO World Lightweight champion Teofimo “Take Over” Lopez (16-0, 12 KO’s) has become dreadfully dull. Lopez keeps fraudulently insisting that he is the undisputed champion of the division. This is because he holds his legit title along with the WBC’s hairbrained “Franchise” status at lightweight.

Yet, his claim flies in the face of the fact that the WBA, WBO and IBF recognize Haney as the true WBC lightweight champion. Honestly, even the WBC recognize The Dream as the lightweight champion! Although, good luck trying to get anyone from the WBC to explain the asinine mess that they made with any kind of logic. Whenever cornered on the subject, WBC president Mauricio Sulaimán will either flat out stop talking about it or accuse the questioner of being too small minded to grasp the concept that can’t be smoothly articulated.

STOP THE LIES!

So, there is no question that Haney is weary with this on-going drama. Above all though, he is tired of the smoke-and-mirrors tactic of being called an “email champion.” At the end of the day however, The Dream feels that if Lopez would simply stop lying, and step up, this could all be put to rest quite easily. For Haney, the longer that this drags out, the more the Take Over has to fabricate reasons as for why he is not fighting.

“It’s all cool and all. The ‘email champion’, it was good in the beginning but now the shit is getting old. Alright, ’email champion’, oooooo, ’email champion’, oooooo, but you keep calling my name now! You calling for an email champion! If I was so easy then you would fight me like you did Kambosos…Unifications and undisputed fights trump mandatories any day of the week! You can ask any sanctioning body and they will tell you that.”

“…We’re all tired of it. I’m tired of it, I know Teo is tired of it, the fans are tired of it, but the only way to solve is to just fight. It’s funny that he keeps saying I am an email champion, and he wants to take my head off when we fight but then he keeps saying he’s going up to 140, too. So, make it make sense. You got to follow these lies because it keeps getting worse and worse and worse. I’m starting to think he has a problem.”

Let’s just keep our fingers crossed that, if victorious, following their next prizefights, they finally trade leather with one another. At the end of the day, no one wants to keep listening to the back and forth go for any longer!
