Devin Haney v Yuriorkis Gamboa next?
WBC lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15KOs) has revealed on Twitter that negotiations are underway for him to defend his title against former champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-3, 18KOs).
Haney, who hasn’t fought since winning a unanimous decision over Alfredo Santiago (12-1, 4KOs) in November 2019, has been eager to step up his competition. He has called out pretty much everyone in his weight division, and even entertained the idea of fighting Amir Khan and Adrien Broner at 147.
For now though, with every other big name fighter at 135 tied up, he’ll have to settle for Gamboa. The Cuban fighter is coming off of an unanimous decision loss to Gervonta Davis (23-0, 22KOs) in December of 2019. In that fight, he tore his Achilles’ tendon. At the age of 38, how much does he have left in the tank?
We’ll certainly find out if and when this fight takes place.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
