Dickens vs Ward called off!
The much anticipated British Super Bantamweight Title bout rematch between Jazza Dickens (23-3 8 KOs) and Martin Ward (26-4-1, 5 KOs) has been canceled. This will disappoint fans who were anxious to see the second installment of the 2015 fight.
Dickens, a 27 year old British boxer, suffered a loss to Kid Galahad in 2015. He bounced back with a six-fight win streak; even going on to capture the British Super Bantamweight Title. After three successful title defenses in 2016, he was given a chance at the WBA/Lineal Super Bantamweight Titles.
Ultimately, Dickens came up short – losing the British title in his next fight. This left questions about his career. However, beating Barnie Arguelles by fifth-round technical knockout set the stage for another shot at the very title he lost previously.
Ward, a 30 year old veteran British boxer, pulled out of the fight due to a hand injury. The former BBBoC English Bantamweight titlist was giving another title opportunity while looking to avenge that 2015 defeat. Since moving up to Super Bantamweight, Ward has lost every title bout to date. So, pulling out of this fight was very painful.
It’s uncertain how long this injury will sideline him, but it’s hopeful that this can be rescheduled on one of the upcoming shows in the next few months.
