Isaac Dogboe Calls for a Rematch with Robeisy Ramirez
Former WBO junior featherweight champion Isaac “Royal Storm” Dogboe (24-3, 15KO) came up short in the vacant WBO featherweight title match against Robeisy Ramirez. Following the outcome, the fighter from Ghana quickly called for a rematch.
Royal Storm’s life took a hard turn after taking a brutal beating in the rematch against two-divisional champion Emanuel Navarrete in 2019. Several pundits believed he would never be the same and that his career may be over.
What did end was his relationship with trainer Paul Dogboe. The younger Dogboe made the tough decision to leave his father to team up with well-respected trainer Barry Hunter at the Headbangers boxing gym.
Royal Storm went on a four-fight win streak, including a victory over two-time title challenger Joet Gonzalez, that catapulted him to the number one slot with the WBO.
DOGBOE WANTS TO RUN IT BACK
On April 1, he was looking for redemption but walked away feeling disappointed after losing by a unanimous decision. During the post-fight interview, an uncharacteristic Dogboe went on a small rant before demanding a rematch.
“Let’s run it back – that’s what I have to say. Let’s run it back, its a rematch. If he’s a true champion, let’s run it back for Cuba and for the rest of the people he claims to represent.”
In being honest, Dogboe did not fight well enough to demand a rematch. He got thoroughly outclassed in every aspect. The judges’ scorecards defined a blowout: 119-108, 118-109, and 117-110. There is no case here for a rematch.
This was all or nothing for the Ghanaian, which explains the passionate outburst at the end of the fight. With Ramirez looking to unify and him taking a drop in the rankings following the loss, Dogboe could find himself at the back of a long line.
