Asanau Scores Impressive Stoppage Over Rueda In Five Rounds
In a lightweight battle, Dzmitry “The Wasp” Asanau (9-0, 4KO) repeatedly stung Matias “La Cobrita” Rueda (38-3, 32KO) with hard shots for the stoppage.
A former featherweight title challenger, La Cobrita believed his experience would be the path to victory over the young prospect. After a blistering opening where he took countless hard shots, hurt The Wasp in the second round.
Asanau recovered then went to work behind the jab and attacked the retreating veteran. He landed thudding shots to the body and head with ease. It was becoming apparent the speed and combination punches were too much for the Argentinian.
Like a shark that smelled blood, Asanau was relentless in targeting the cut on La Cobrita’s left eye. After witnessing their fighter take repeated shots without returning fire, Rueda’s trainer threw in the towel in round five.
Despite getting hurt in the second round, Asanau showed good ring IQ by adjusting in real time. In addition, he was calm when faced with adversity and tactical when taking out his opponent.
Asanau now holds a WBC minor title and could find himself ranked in the top 15.
