According to Easter Sr, the assailants approached his son at the 1100 block of Sycamore Street in Cincinnati. Local authorities say three men approached the former champ attempting to steal money and jewelry. Easter Jr would be shot multiple times during an attempt to run away. The attackers took two gold chains, three diamond rings, and his cell phone as they fled the scene. The former champion is currently undergoing surgery to remove bullet fragments. He is expected to survive.

A native of Toledo, Easter Jr won the IBF title in September of 2016 with a unanimous decision victory over Richard Commey. He defended that title four times before losing the belt to then-WBC 135 champ Mikey Garcia in a May 2018 unification matchup. Making the decision to move up to junior welterweight in late-2019.
