Eddie Chambers Weighs in on Canelo vs Andrade Situation

On October 11 former heavyweight contender “Fast” Eddie Chambers (42-5, 23KOs) made his thoughts known on Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s refusal to fight Demetrius “BooBoo” Andrade via Twitter.

Chambers tweeted

“So Canelo calling BooBoo Andrade boring is on of the lamest excuses I heard of not fighting him.” ~ Eddie Chambers via Twitter

The WBO champ was quick to respond with his own tweet.

“Right GGG could have avoided getting hit with 200+ punches, taking a beating and ending up in the hospital, but didn’t because he wanted to entertain the fans #NoDefense” ~ Demetrius Andrade via Twitter

Andrade was referring to Gennady Golovkin’s performance against Sergiy Derevyanchenko this past October 5. Many feel that Golovkin lost that fight.

FRUITLESS PURSUIT

Demetrius Andrade has been pursing a fight with Alvarez for the past six years. He has also made it known that he’d fight Gennady Golovkin for the past five years. The WBO champion has made every available move to position himself to fight both men to no avail. He has moved up in weight from junior middleweight to middleweight, won a title, and moved to the same provider DAZN. None of these moves has enticed either fighter to accept his challenge. There were rumors that Canelo was in negotiations with Andrade. However, instead he’ll be moving up two weight classes to challenge WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev.

Without pressure from fans or DAZN, it appears unlikely Andrade will get a shot at either Alvarez or Golovkin. DAZN has included Demetrius Andrade on a shortlist of opponents that they’ll approve for Canelo. Although, that list also includes Callum Smith and Gennady Golovkin, who are both more lucrative options. Golden Boy and Alvarez are probably reluctant due to Andrade having a similar style to Erislandy Lara. Lara famously fought Canelo in 2014 in a fight a large number of fans feelhe won.

As for Golovkin, he’s trying to get the IBF to approve Kamil Szeremeta as his mandatory, who’s currently ranked fourth by the sanctioning body. This is a huge letdown in place of a unification with Andrade (WBO) or a rematch with Derevyanchenko, who’s currently ranked number one. It looks like Demetrius Andrade may have to take another page out of Lara’s playbook and crash some press conferences.
