Eddie Hearn Marks December for Prograis vs Haney Showdown
The boxing world is still waiting for an update on the proposed matchup between reining WBC junior welterweight champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (29-1, 24 KOs) and world lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (30-0, 15 KOs). According to promoter Eddie Hearn, he believes the fight is on the verge of being a done deal, with early December of this year now being the targeted time for it to take place.
The Chairman of Matchroom Promotions sat down for an interview with the news outlet Boxing Social. Hearn provided the latest on the much-talked-about contest.
“I hope that fight is imminent, and I think early December looks like the date. Tremendous fight, just securing the venue. Now Regis has signed, and Devin hasn’t, but not for any particular reason other than we were waiting on the site and the venue. Now we have it and we’re ready to go, and hopefully he signs this week.”
MORE DIFFICULT THAN ONCE BELIEVED
There was a time when it appeared things would go smoothly and with no impending issues. On July 28, both fighters announced it would happen on October 28. But since then, there have been nothing but continuous obstacles.
Prograis has become increasingly frustrated over Haney for not putting pen to paper on a contract. He believes the lightweight champion is stalling and trying to play gamesmanship. Rougarou has suggested that if Haney doesn’t straighten up and fly right, he will explore other options.
It would be a shame if the match were not to occur. Haney is younger and has quicker hands and feet. Prograis is the heavier puncher. Many fans want to witness a battle that, on paper, appears to be a pretty even matchup. Stay tuned to 3kingsboxing.com for additional updates.
