Eddie Hearn Thinks Canelo Alvarez vs Badou Jack Is Possible
Boxing fans could very well see undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (58-3-2, 39KO) versus WBC cruiserweight champion Badou “The Ripper” Jack (28-3-3, 17KO). Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn revealed the fight is under consideration.
Hearn may have shocked the entire boxing community by speaking on this fight being a viable option with Boxing King Media.
“I spoke to Prince Khalid [Bin Abdulaziz of Skill Challenge Promotions] about that fight. I like the fight because I think Badou Jack was a super middleweight . . . I don’t think Eddy Reynoso is rushing around that fight, but I think it might have some legs.”
WHY CANELO VS JACK CAN ACTUALLY HAPPEN NEXT
On February 26, The Ripper ripped the title away from Ilunga Junior Makabu in a thrilling battle that ended with a twelfth-round stoppage . Boxing fans may remember that Alvarez attempted to add to his legacy by becoming a five-divisional world champion against Makabu in 2021. The fight got derailed when mandatory challenger Thabiso Mchunu refused to step aside.
When considering the recent set of events surrounding the undisputed champion, a fight with Jack makes sense. 3kingsboxing.com reported a fight with two-time WBC champion David Benavidez looks to be dead in the water.
Also, his rematch with WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol seems to have hit an impasse. The biggest hurdles in making the fight is that Bivol wants to fight for the undisputed super middleweight titles, as Alvarez wants to rematch for the WBA title.
In addition, Canelo has never stopped wanting to be a five-divisional champion. Where there is smoke, there is fire, and opening Canelo vs Jack discussions is the first step making it a reality.
