Elijah Garcia Beats Terrell Gausha by Controversial Split Decision
In his latest tour of duty, middleweight fighter Terrell Gausha (24-5-1, 12 KO’s) suffered a controversial split decision loss to Elijah Garcia (17-1, 13 KO’s). Sticking to the basics, tight defense and reliable counterpunching, the Cleveland native controlled the majority of the fight. Right from the beginning, Gausha dropped Garcia with a straight right.
To his credit, Garcia was game through the battle and maintained a consistent and impressive body attack. Aside from this however, Gausha outlanded him, seemingly hurt him more and was more consistently the clear ring general. Despite this however, when the match went to the scorecards, Garcia was awarded a questionable split decision win to the tune 95-94 (Garcia) and 96-93 (Garcia) and 95-94 (Gausha).
It’s unclear what Garcia will do next. Entering this match, he was coming off a split decision loss to Kyrone Davis and he is unranked in the top 15 of any of the four major sanctioning bodies. Given this rather sour performance, it’s very unlikely that much will change in this regard. While it would be the honorable thing to do, it’s unlikely that Garcia will rematch Gausha. So it will be interesting to see what his next move is.
