Jaron Ennis Looking to Fight Keith Thurman or WBA Regular Champ Stanionis
According to Bozy Ennis, father and chief second to Jaron “Boots” Ennis (29-0, 27 KO’s), they are confident that they have narrowed their next opponent down to two selections. As many believe him to be one of the next great talents in the welterweight division, it’s no wonder why the fans want to see Boots dance with premium opposition. Yet, as Bozy explained to the ThaBoxingVoice, the same talent that makes him must-see TV is the same talent which makes signing fights a bit difficult.
“We wanted Thurman, and someone said that he overpriced himself, that he didn’t want to fight Boots. That’s the reason why they overprice themselves and we looking at Stanionis, because Stanionis has the WBA Regular title. So it’s either Thurman or Stanionis, we still working on it; that’s what we working on.”
WE WANT THE BEST!
Thus far, Boots, who is ranked #1 (IBF), #2 (WBO), #2 (WBA) and #3 (WBC), has only had one bout in 2022 during which match he laid waste to Custio Clayton. Naturally, he is aching to hop back in the ring to continue making his case that he is the next king of the division.
Aside from Keith “One Time” Thurman (30-1, 22 KO’s) and Regular WBA 147-pound champion Eimantas Stanionis (14-0, 9 KO’s), Team Ennis has called out every top name in the division including WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford and unified 147-pound champion Errol Spence Jr. Yet, while their ambition is sky-high, Bozy lets it be known that they are only gunning for the crème of the crop.
“If anyone else is available, we’ll take em! Long as you in the top five right there, we don’t care who it is. But it’s got to be for something because we are right there at the door for a title!”
