Jaron Ennis vs Roiman Villa Welterweight Bout Set For Davis vs Garcia Undercard
Welterweight Jaron “Boots” Ennis (30-0, 27 KOs) is a fighter that’s heavily hyped by hardcore heads. He’s set to return to the ring on the April 22 Gervonta Davis – Ryan Garcia undercard. According to ESPN Knockout, Ennis could face the hard-hitting Roiman Villa (26-1, 24, KOs).
Ennis and Villa should be familiar with one another. Both fought on the undercard of Davis’s eighth-round stoppage over reigning WBA junior lightweight champion Hector Luis Garcia on January 8. That evening, Ennis defeated Karen Chukhadzhian by a unanimous decision to win the Interim IBF welterweight title, and Villa scored a surprising majority-decision victory over previously unbeaten Rashidi Ellis.
Many observers expected Boots to make easy work of Chukhadzhian. Yet, he had difficulty dealing with the constant movement of the fighter from Ukraine. Ennis easily won on the scorecards. However, his performance was far from impressive.
Ranked second by the IBF at 147, Villa is determined, rugged, and physically strong for the division. Against Ellis, he did an excellent job of cutting off the ring and showed late-round power by scoring two knockdowns in the final round.
GOOD MATCHUP FOR BOTH MEN
If Ennis – Villa becomes official, they would have plenty of incentive and something to prove. Boots would look to show that he is the fighter many observers believe is on a path to superstardom. Villa is hungry to show that he is the genuine article at 147, and the win against Ellis is no fluke. Stay tuned to 3kingboxing.com for updates on this developing situation.
