Dina Thorslund Could Fight Ebanie Bridges in a Bantamweight Unification

Dina Thorslund (19-0, 8 KOs) successfully defended the WBO women’s bantamweight title for the third time with an eight-round stoppage over Debora Anahi Lopez at the Graakjaer Arena, Holstebro Arena in Holstebro, Denmark. Following such a decisive victory, a fight that could be possible is a unification clash against IBF champion Ebanie Bridges (9-1, 4 KOs).

The defending champion was in complete control from the opening bell. Lopez had no answers for the speed, work-rate, and technical prowess of Thorslund. The challenger eventually said ‘No Mas’ after complaints of being in distress following a clash of heads.

UNIFICATION DOWN THE LINE?

Bridges is arguably the biggest name in the division. She is coming off an exciting eighth-round stoppage win over bitter rival Shannon O’Connell in December 2022. Following that victory, Bridges’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, said he wants the IBF champion in a unification fight in 2023.

Thorslund would definitely qualify as a suitable unification opponent. The reigning WBO 118-pound champion would love to add the honor of being unified champion to her resume. Given Hearn’s deep pockets, Thorslund vs Bridges would seem to be fairly easy to make.

RIDING THE WAVE

Hearn understands that women’s boxing is more popular than ever. His promotional company, Matchroom, has had a successful run featuring and showcasing female bouts over the years.

One would guess the shrewd businessman has already entertained the pitting the two bantamweight champions in the ring. Do not be surprised if a showdown takes place between Thorslund and Bridges at some point this year.
