Jaron Ennis wants the top guys of the division
Rising welterweight contender Jaron “Boots” Ennis (25-0, 23ko) will face tough veteran fighter Juan Carlos Abreu (23-5-1, 21ko) on September 19, 2020. The super-talented fighter from Philadelphia has been tearing up the scene. So far, many inside the boxing community believe he possesses the ability to become a world champion. However, the task isn’t easy, especially considering the welterweight division is one of the toughest divisions in boxing.
The division is loaded, names like Shawn Porter, Keith Thurman, and Danny Garcia. Beyond that, there are the champions WBA Manny Pacquiao, WBO Terence Crawford, and unified champion Errol Spence Jr. The deck is currently stacked against him. Right now, the business side of the sport is looking to make mega-fights with those high profile names. Moreover, with COVID-19 finally loosening its choke-hold on the sport, everyone will be looking to make the lucrative fights to makeup for fans not being allowed to attend.
Furthermore, right now in his career, the rising welterweight star is viewed as a high-risk, low reward. He feels that is why none of the top guys are mentioning his name.
“I definitely feel that way, I am high-risk, low reward. That’s why the guys try to jump around and not pick me. Like, I would be their last resort to go to if they have to fight somebody.”
“The end of the day, I just keep winning, keep climbing the ranks, and get to that number one spot so I can be mandatory, and they can’t run around and not fight me.”
BUILDING HIS CASE
Ennis has been adamant about making a statement by stopping Abreu. He feels that it is the only way to show the fans why the top guys are not trying to look his way, and hopefully lead to a title eliminator
“Right now, I have to get what I can take cause guys have been turning me down. For me, if I stop Abreu on Saturday night, they definitely going to see me and understand why these guys are running and don’t want to fight me.”
“Not looking past my opponent, after I do my thing on Saturday night and get that win, hopefully, I get one of the top five guys or something like that in my next fight before I get to the world championship.”
