Kenia Enriquez looking to make the third defense of her title!
Former WBO female flyweight and current interim WBC light flyweight champion Kenia Enriquez (21-1, 9KO) returns May 25 on in Puerto Vallarta against Venezuelan hard-hitter Leiryn Flores (16-1-1, 13KO).
The bout will be on the under-card of the highly anticipated rematch between Jackie Nava vs Marcela Acuna.
Flores will be at a huge disadvantage here regardless of what her record indicates. Out of her 18 fights, she has only faced one opponent that had more than ten fights! In addition, only one of the 17 opponents who had under ten fights had a winning record!
The one time she fought anyone remotely close to the level of the interim champion, she was stopped in six rounds!
A 25 year-old fighter from Mexico, Enriquez has won a wave of consecutive bouts since her 2015 title loss against Melissa McMorrow. She has since moved down in weight, winning the interim title by defeating Maria Salinas in 2017. This will mark her third defense.
A victory could set up a super showdown with fellow country woman and current WBC champion Yesenia Gomez.
INTERESTING FACT
Earlier this year, Enriquez signed an MMA contract with the Hispanic based franchise Combate Americas. She is the second female boxer to join; the first being seven division champion Amanda Serrano.
