Unfortunately, it looks like one of the biggest fights of the year has been canceled! On August 21, IBF and WBC World welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (27-0, 21 KO’s) was slated to face WBA welterweight champion in recess Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KO’s). Now that fight is kaput as Spence has withdrawn due to an eye injury. Even without the fight being a unification bout, this was going to be the most significant fight of The Truth’s career. It would have been his second outing since returning from his 2019 car accident.

THE AFTERMATH

While Spence will not participate, Pacquiao will still compete on the same date. Instead of Spence, the living legend will now face the challenge of WBA Super World welterweight champion Yordenis “54 Milagros” Ugas (26-4, 12 KO’s). It is somewhat odd that this is now the match up. It’s odd because there was a great deal of speculation that the WBA was going to strip Ugas of his belt.

The rationale behind the speculated move was to make Spence versus Pacquiao a more meaningful unification match. Now, once they clash in the ring, there will be no further dispute over who should hold the WBA Super title at 147.

3kingsboxing wishes Errol Spence a speedy recovery. Yet, it appears that The Truth has every intention on returning with a vengeance!
