Oscar Escandon demolishes Jhack Tepora in upset!
Former featherweight title challenger, Oscar Escandon (26-5, 18KOs) made a definitive statement as he looks to get back into world title contention! After three consecutive losses and fifteen months out of the ring, he made quick work of the previously unbeaten Jhack Tepora (24-1, 17KOs) in one round!
Tepora holding the interim WBA featherweight title was a major favorite heading into this fight. Displaying the ability to box and punch made him a sure favorite to get passed his experienced counterpart.
With a five inch height advantage, one would assume Tepora would elect to box from the outside. That didn’t happen as Escandon applied major pressure from the moment the bell rang.
As the action heated up, the shorter Escandon pinned Tepora against the ropes and unloaded a vicious left hook to his opponent’s ribs.
Tepora went down after a delayed reaction and wasn’t able to rise to his feet and beat the count!
Not only did the highly touted prospect lose his unbeaten record, he also lost the interim WBA featherweight title. This loss is devastating, but the only thing he can do is recover, regroup and go back to the drawing board.
As for Escandon, this win is a major start to putting him right back in prime position for title shot!
