Stephen Espinoza Claims There Are No Plans On Canelo’s Next Opponents
The boxing world is abuzz with excitement over the upcoming clash between undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (59-2-2, 39KO) and undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (35-1, 19KO). However, according to Showtime Executive Stephen Espinoza, the next opponents for Canelo are not set in stone.
Alvarez rocked the boxing world by announcing a deal was done for him to fight under the Premier Boxing Champions umbrella. In addition, he signed a three-fight contract that immediately shifted the conversation on who are the next two opponents.
CANELO’S NEXT OPPONENTS ARE UP IN THE AIR.
Espinoza engaged with members of the media while attending the Jaron Ennis versus Roiman Villa and addressed the situation of who the next two opponents could be.
“It’s going to be case by case. I mean because look, you know the sport it changes so often. I mean who knows who’s going to be the best available opponent in six months or a year? It’s really up to Canelo and his team, along with PBC, and we’ll take it one fight at a time.”

Among the various names circulating in the boxing community, one potential opponent that could be ruled out is two-time WBC champion David “The Mexican Monster” Benavidez. In a recent interview, Canelo expressed his disinterest in making the fight with The Mexican Monster, citing the latter’s tendency to talk excessively as the reason behind his decision.
It will be interesting to see who gets the call to fight next, provided the Mexican mega-star is victorious in the upcoming showdown against Charlo on September 30.
