Stephen Espinoza says MLB and NBA will lead the way

As sports fans of every variety remain holed up at home, the number one question is ‘when will the sports return?’ Watching old footage of sporting events gone past and playing your own personal gaming system can only sustain a true sports junkie for so long. Trouble is, despite the immense demand for product, there simply is no telling when the supply will be available.

Although they are being relentlessly questioned on the matter, there are no boxing personalities with a concrete fix on when sports, or boxing in particular, will return. However, in a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, SHOWTIME Sports president Stephen Espinoza gave his two cents on who he thinks will know before everyone else.

HOME RUNS AND SLAM DUNKS FIRST?

Even though all sports are currently shut down and rupturing money, Espinoza is betting his money on one of two industries to lead the charge back into live events.

“There are a lot of unanswered questions, MLB and NBA are grappling with this right now. I think a lot of us are looking at those two and seeing how they deal with these issues because they’ll probably be back in business before we start doing boxing events. Or at least they’ll have a plan in place. So there is still a lot of work that needs to be done to make sure we are safeguarding the athletes and everyone associated with the event.”

So while this does not provide a final and fulfilling response, it does at least give us a tangible focal point. In fact, Espinoza mirrors the sentiments of Top Rank’s Bob Arum, who also thought the NBA would be among the first to stage live events. Regardless of who is correct, or returns first, I think all fans could agree that we just want it as soon as possible!
