Juan Francisco Estrada – Roman Gonzalez Rematch Set For March 13, 2021

The rematch that all observers of the smaller-weight fighters have been clamoring for will finally happen! During the Callum Smith – Canelo Alvarez broadcast on December 20, 2020, Matchroom Boss Eddie Hearn announced that WBC Junior Bantamweight world champion Juan Francisco Estrada (41-3, 28 KOs) and WBA ‘Super’ World 115-pound champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (50-2, 41 KOs) will face off on March 13, 2021, on DAZN.

IT’S ABOUT DAMN TIME

Estrada and Gonzalez fought each other in November 2012. “Chocolatito” defeated Estrada by unanimous decision to defend his then WBA World Light Flyweight title. It was one of the best fights of that year. Estrada put up a very spirited effort, and there were more than a few observers who believed that he deserved the verdict that night.

Since their first battle eight years ago, both men have moved on to tremendous success. Each has won world titles in both the flyweight and junior bantamweight divisions and has been hailed as one of the best Pound-4-Pound boxers in the sport.

Despite their age (Estrada is 30, Gonzalez is 33), they still perform at a high level. Given their styles, it is easy to visualize a rematch being just as entertaining as their first scrap so long ago. No location has been finalized, but that will not matter. Folks will be excited to see the two Little Giants back in the ring again exchanging blows. And as a bonus, it will be a unification contest to boot. This is one of those fights that you will not miss if you are a true boxing fan.
