Benavidez calls out Canelo!
Former WBC super middleweight champion David “El Bandera Roja” Benavidez (23-0, 20KOs) has yet again called out Canelo Alvarez (54-1-2, 36KOs) to a fight. Fresh off of a dominant unanimous decision victory over Callum Smith (27-1, 19KOs) to win the super WBA super middleweight and vacant WBC super middleweight titles, Alvarez is a wanted man!
WILLING TO FIGHT WHOEVER TO GET TO CANELO!
Benavidez is one of the best super middleweights in the world. Just as well, he is itching to get Canelo in the squared circle to the show the boxing world just how good he truly is. He took to his social media to declare he is willing to go through whoever to get Canelo in the ring!
At 6’1 the Arizona native has shown tremendous potential as a future star in the sport. Blessed with power, speed and natural size, he has everything you would want in a fighter.
With Alvarez being a free agent, Benavidez’s chances of securing the fight are substantially higher than in the past. Benavidez is aligned with PBC. There is also a potential showdown with IBF super middleweight champion Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (20-0, 12KOs). The two have called each other out in the past.
2021 could be a huge year for Benavidez if he is able to secure big fights with Plant or Alvarez. He will likely need to acquire a belt at 168 to get Canelo’s interest. Alvarez has stated he is looking to unify the super middleweight division. This puts Caleb Plant and WBO super middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders (30-0, 14KOs) in his path.
