Chris Eubank Wins By Way of Matt Korobov Injury in Second Round!
Under the hot lights of Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Chris Eubank Jr (29-2, 22 KO’s) won his American debut in the second round by TKO over Matvey Korobov (28-3-1, 14 KO’s). Although brief, the fight did not prove to be the definitive statement Eubank wanted to make.
The bout opened with a standard feel-out round for both boxers. Out of nowhere, Korobov began behaving as if he had some sort of backinjury. Referee Steve Willis stepped in to investigate his discomfort.
After being examined by a small battery of doctors, Korobov insisted that he could not continue. The crowd on hand booed loudly when it when it became evident that the Russian fighter would not soldier on.
Replays, however, would show that something irregular did take place in the shoulder area that Korobov was complaining about. So, in a bit of a stinker for everyone involved, Eubank Jr at least says that he got the ‘W’.
3kingsboxing will continue to cover Eubank’s middleweight campaign as well as the ongoing diagnosis of Korobov’s injury.
