Chris Eubank Jr Returns October 16 Against Wanik Awdijan
On October 16, former world title challenger Chris Eubank Jr (30-2, 22KOs) returns to the ring against an unknown commodity in Wanik Awdijan (28-1, 11KOs). The card features Hughie Fury taking on Christian Hammer, as well WBO middleweight champion Savannah Marshall taking on Lolita Muzeya. The #3 ranked WBC middleweight contender was originally going to fight on October 2. However, medical issues would see his opponent, Anatoli Muratov, removed from the card.
Eubank, who is riding a five-fight win streak, will be fighting for the second time this year. His first bout of 2021 came against Marcus Morrison whom he defeated by unanimous decision. The boisterous Brit has been itching to get in the ring with the top fighters at middleweight.
FEED ME FOES!
His last significant bout came in 2019 against former world title challenger Matvey Korobov. He would be declared the winner in a very anticlimactic way after the Russian suffered a left shoulder injury in the second round. The injury left him unable to continue. Prior to that bout, he called for a fight with WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo.
Recently, he attempted to rekindle an old rivalry with former two-division world champion Billy Joe Saunders. Eubank would poke fun at Saunders, who lost his title to Canelo Alvarez back in May. Saunders suffered a broken orbital bone and would elect not to continue. Chris Eubank also placed a $14,000 bet ahead of Alvarez v Saunders and was overjoyed after his rival suffered defeat.
At this current moment, it appears that Eubank Jr will have to look elsewhere if he wants to find a big time fight. First things first however, he must get by his opponent. A world title opportunity isn’t too far out of reach for 2022 if he can keep up his winning ways.
