Tevin Farmer and Mickey Bey to Battle in Mutually High-Stakes Crossroads Fight!
Typically when fighters go back and forth on social media, it does not always result in them making a fight. This is the reason why boxing fans were shocked to hear that former champions Tevin “American Idol” Farmer (30-5-1, 6KOs) and Mickey “The Spirit” Bey (23-3-1, 11KOs) will be fighting in Ghana on May 21.
Earlier in the year, the two former champions engaged in a light-hearted rumble of words on social media. Farmer posted about a possible fight with The Spirit, and Bey did not back down, making it clear he wanted some smoke.
A CROSSROAD FIGHT FOR TWO FORMER CHAMPIONS
The boxing community would chime in, but some fans probably felt nothing more would come from it. Fans are rejoicing and they feel pretty good knowing the two will fight in what can only be described as a crossroads fight.
Bey, a former IBF lightweight champion, has not been in the ring since losing to unified champion George Kambosos Jr back in 2019. Moreover, Bey has transitioned into a trainer, and he was helping out in the corner of super middleweight prospect Edgar Berlanga.
Farmer, also a former IBF junior lightweight champion, has been sidelined since losing the title to Joseph “Jo Jo” Diaz in 2020. In an interview with 3Kings Boxing, he explained how team Diaz used the COVID-19 pandemic delaying fights to claim the contract was expired.
Both fighters are ready to return to the ring, with Farmer looking to compete in the talent-rich lightweight division. Both fighters being free agents is probably what made the fight easy to make.
This is the ultimate crossroads fight for both former champions, as a defeat at this point for either fighter would more than likely mean retirement.
