Tevin Farmer doubles down on desire to fight Gary Russell Jr at 130!

At the current time, boxing is saturated with supreme talent and jaw-dropping potential match-ups. 2019 was popping at the seams with great competitive action bouts and a few critical rematches. Of course this is not a perfect world, so the boxing populace and many fighters did not get everything that they wanted.

FARMER WANTS THE BEST

Two combatants that certainly fell under that umbrella are Tevin “The American Dream” Farmer (30-4-1, 6 KO’s) and “Mr.” Gary Russell Jr (30-1, 18 KO’s). Both have upcoming match-ups scheduled. Russell Jr will tangle with Tugstsogt Nyambayar (11-0 9 KO’s) on February 8 and Farmer will face Joseph “Jo-Jo” Diaz (30-1, 15 KO’s) on January 30.

While Farmer’s bout with Diaz is a top of the line bout in terms of skill, the America Dream would have much rather fought one of the other three super featherweight champions in Miguel Berchelt (WBC), Leo Santa Cruz (WBA) or Jamel Herring (WBO). Yet for a number of reasons, none of those fights were able to be formalized.

IF YOU DIDN’T HEAR THE FIRST TIME…

Although not looking past Diaz, who Farmer views as a tough fight, he has retained his ambition to fight ALL the great fighters that he can. Along those lines, Farmer recently doubled down on his aspiration to face the aforementioned Gary Russell Jr.

Obviously he realizes that they reside in different, but neighboring, weight divisions. That does not prevent him from believing that the fight can be made.

Earlier this year via tweet, the IBF super featherweight champion made that wish publicly known. Yet, in an interview conducted by Nestor Gibbs, Farmer restated his desire to face Mr. Russell if he was willing to come up one weight category.

“Me personally, I’d fight all them dudes. I invited Gary Russell up to 130 as well! Man listen, everyone needs to put on their big boy pants and strap up! Because y’all see me man, I’m ready to fight whoever.

“There ain’t no bitch in my blood! But it takes two to tango and I don’t have another tangoing partner after Jo-Jo Diaz. So hopefully someone will hear this, step up and say they ready ‘cause I’m ready.”

This is a juicy potential prizefight and it will be interesting to see how, or if, Russell Jr responds to the refreshed call out. In any event, 3kingsboxing will be on deck to cover all the latest developments.
