Tevin Farmer Wants Jojo Diaz Next!
On July 27, Tevin “American Idol” Farmer (29-4-1, 6 KO’s) will make the fourth defense of his IBF super featherweight title at the College Park Center located in Arlington, Texas. There, Farmer will face French challenger Guillaume “L’Expert” Frenois (46-1-1, 12 KO’s).
The two southpaw fighters will serve as the co-main event to the Maurice Hooker v Jose Carlos Ramirez super lightweight unification prizefight.
READY FOR THE BIG TIME!!
Farmer first took possession of the IBF belt back on Aug 3, 2018 when he scored a unanimous decision over Billy “The Kid” Dibb. While the American Idol is not exactly looking past Frenois, he most certainly has his mind on future potential fights. Yet he understands that the July 27 bout is a must win if he wants to keep elevating his professional career.
In an interview with Fight Hub TV, he states:
“I feel like I’m just better, you know? All around the board! Not even including my hard work. I feel like every fighter is going to come to beat you, is trying to beat you. It’s an opportunity of a life time so you got to be focused, you got to be on the money.”
Provided Farmer does best Frenois as he is expected to, the slick Philly fighter is done with playing the supporting role on fight cards. From this point on, the American Idol has his mind set to be a main event performer.
“No disrespect to nobody, after this I’m no longer interested in fighting on under-cards and I wasn’t even supposed to fight on this card, you know? I did it out of respect. They are fighting a unification, Hooker and Ramirez. They are fighting a unification so I said ‘fuck it, I’ll fight on the under-card.’
But for real, for real, I should be headlining. Not here, probably, not here, but my own card.”
BAD BLOOD BOILING
Farmer already knows who he wants to face next. Well, in all actuality, the IBF super featherweight champion would prefer to contract a bout with one of the other divisional champions. However, the American Idol states that his efforts to finalize fights with the other super featherweight titlists has been fruitless.
Given this reality, Farmer has his sights set on Joseph “Jo-Jo” Diaz (29-1, 15 KO’s). Currently, the southpaw Golden Boy fighter is rated #1 by the WBC and #4 by the WBO.
For the past several months, the two have maintained a very public rivalry. After some social media warfare, their personal rift intensified after Farmer blew down on Diaz during the Canelo vs Jacobs fight week.
The two men and their teams traded a number of heated words before going their separate ways without any major incident.
Yet, while the altercation never got physical, their mutual animosity certainly deepened. Initially, Farmer threaten to starve Diaz out for the title shot, however, it now appears that he’s had a change of heart.
“I get past this fight and then we can focus on him, you know? I’m giving Jo-Jo Diaz a shot after this! Nothing in boxing is 100% but I’m giving him a shot after this.”
3kingsboxing will continue to provide coverage on this appealing theoretical prizefight that could be very close to opening negotiations.
