Rene Alvarado looking for a title shot
Rene Alvarado (29-8, 20 KOs) will finally get his chance for a world title. Firstly though, he must get past Carlos Morales (17-3-3, 6 KOs) in a WBA Super-featherweight title eliminator.
The 29 year old Alvarado currently ranks #1 and has been in the ring with some of the division’s best. Think names like Manual Avila, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Joseph Diaz, Robinson Castellanos. However, recent victories over Denis Shafikov and Roger Gutierrez keep him within title range.
The Nicaraguan fighter will have a two inch reach advantage while riding a five fight win streak with four ending in knock out.
Morales, 28 years old, currently ranks #4. This is a great opportunity for him also. Despite losing his debut, he has managed to win 16 straight fights.
The Mexican fighter has big wins against Omar Tienda, Luis Franco and Charles Huerta. Also, he has shared the ring with top opposition in current WBA “regular” Super-featherweight champion Alberto Machado.
It is a bit surprising to see Morales in this eliminator since a recent loss to undefeated Ryan Garcia, should have moved him down in the rankings.
Nonetheless, it should be a very entertaining bout between two of the top fighters in a stacked division.
This is part of a Golden Boy Promotions event that will be streamed live on Facebook from the Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California on December 18.
