Finkel kills rumor that Fury v Wilder 3 abandoned!
A report from dailymail.co.uk stating that the TBD Tyson Fury (30-0-1, 21KOs) v Deontay Wilder (42-1-1, 41KOs) trilogy match has been abandoned has been dismissed by Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel. The report also stated that Tyson Fury would take a December fight before a undisputed clash with unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (23-1, 21KOs) in 2021.
As everyone knows, Wilder had a rematch clause his in contract prior to their February rematch. A few weeks after the fight, Wilder exercised his right to a rematch, paving the way for an opportunity to reclaim his WBC title.
Speaking to Worldboxingnews.net, Shelly Finkel dispelled that the rematch clause has expired and that the fight will indeed take place in December.
“It’s simply not true.”
“Deontay Wilder is fighting Tyson Fury in December. We are working on that fight. We will update and keep WBN informed.”
The trilogy was originally targeting a date in July. However, it was postponed after the COVID-19 pandemic started to spread like wildfire. Ever since that postponement, December has been the target month for the fight happen. Even in the midst of the pandemic still affecting so many around the world, this goal remains.
It will be interesting to see if this fight happens in 2020 given the short amount of time each guy will have to prepare for a fight of this magnitude. It seems like 2021 would be much more suitable and make sense for all parties involved, especially Wilder who is coming off bicep surgery, his first loss and now a major shakeup with the firing of Mark Breland.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
