Rey Vargas and O’Shaquie Foster Headed for WBC Title Bout!

The World Boxing Council has announced that its board of governors has approved a petition from current WBC featherweight champion Rey Vargas (36-0, 22 KOs) to fight O’Shaquie “Ice Water” Foster (19-1, 11 KOs) for the vacant WBC 130-pound crown. That belt became vacant in the aftermath of former WBC/WBO champ Shakur Stevenson failing to make weight for what was to be a September 30 title defense against Robson Conceicao.

EXPERIENCE VERSUS YOUTH

Vargas is a two-division champion. In his last bout, he scored a split decision win over Mark Magsayo to win the WBC featherweight title. The 32-year-old from Mexico City, Mexico now has ambitions of winning a world title in a third weight class.

Foster is the WBC number one contender at 130. He earned that position with a unanimous decision win over Mahammadkhuja Yaqubov in March 2022. The 28-year-old resident of Houston, Texas feels his time is now. “Ice Water” took to social media to express excitement to fight for a world title.
