Frank Warren Livid that Don King has not Paid Daniel DuBois In Full!
On June 11, London born boxer “Dynamite” Daniel DuBois (18-1 17 KO’s) traveled to the US and fulfilled his dream of becoming a world champion. He accomplished this by stopping native New Yorker and former regular WBA heavyweight champion Trevor Bryan (22-1, 15 KO’s) and usurping his title. The bout stood as his third win since suffering his sole professional defeat at the hands of Joe Joyce late in 2020.
Despite all the good news surrounding the wonderful win, there was one catch, DuBois is still looking for the rest of his earnings! During the business portion of the fights setup, Don King, Bryan’s promoter, controlled the promotion due to having won the purse bid. With this positioning it was also his responsibility to pay the fighters. Unfortunately, that has only partially taken place!
WHERE’S THE MONEY
Now, DuBois’s promoter, Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions, recently blew the whistle on King’s shabby business practices during an interview with Seconds Out.
“It’s really simple, the WBA put that fight out for purse bid, there were two purse bids in there. One was Queensberry and one was Don King Promotions. Don King Promotions won the fight and issued a contract between them and Daniel Dubois.
“They have not paid Daniel DuBois all his money…pay the man, he fought and that’s it, that’s the end of story. It’s not my fault you bid the money you bid for it, or King bid the money for it.
“It’s not my fault that there were no people in there. It’s not my fault he didn’t have American TV, that’s down to him as a promoter. It lost money! Everybody knew it was going to lose money! That was his [Don King’s] choice!
“Now he needs to pay his fighters…the money he’s received [DuBois] as yet is about four hundred thousand dollars, he still owes, including the revenue money around nine hundred thousand dollars, so pay the man his money! Why is it taking so long?!”
HISTORY OF VIOLATIONS
For those in the know, there is nothing new or surprising about this. Still standing at the better part of 100, the 90 year old promoter has been swindling fighters for years! Sure King has promoted a laundry list to top-notch boxers such as Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Evander Holyfield, Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr to name a few. He was also instrumental in producing huge historical events such as the Rumble in the Jungle (Ali vs Foreman) and Thrilla in Manila (Ali vs Frazier 3) as well as overseeing the rise of heavyweight boxing powerhouse and knockout machine “Iron” Mike Tyson.
Although, several of the previously mentioned fighters, especially Mike Tyson, have accused King of cheating them out of money for services rendered. Numerous fighters have had to sue the storied promoter to recoup those funds. It seems like this is the road that Dubois is currently traveling down.
So we’ll just have to stay tuned to see if the slick-mouth fight-slinger will talk his way into another courtroom or simply pay the tab owed. In either instance, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news.
